What Are Lipids and Why They Matter

The term lipid refers to fats found in your blood. Lipids serve several essential purposes — they provide energy, form cell membranes, produce hormones, protect vital organs, and help the body absorb fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K.

Your body mainly contains two types of lipids: cholesterol and triglycerides.

Both are necessary in moderate amounts, but when they rise too high, they start to harm blood vessels and organs, leading to serious conditions like heart disease, fatty liver, and metabolic syndrome.

Your goal is not to remove fats entirely but to maintain a healthy balance — keeping the good fats high and the harmful ones low.
